I am an avid media reader, going through at least 8 newspapers published in 6 countries daily, and the countless issues of magazines. PressReader is godsent to me, as it saves me a trip to the library to locate physical copies of the various overseas publications to devour through.
However, the premium subscription is required for me to access its vast catalogue of several thousands newspapers and magazine titles, which costs $30 USD per month. How do I get this access for free?
It is actually quite straightforward. Many libraries and community clubs are using PressReader and provide premium access to their users. All you need is access to one of these organisations. Use their premium account to access PressReader, and then register your own PressReader account. After registering, you can access PressReader directly using your own account with full access to premium content. Simple.
A bonus tip. There are certain publications that are geo-blocked for certain locations. For example, I read South China Morning Post but it is geo-blocked in Hong Kong and Singapore. Fortunately, the solution is yet another simple one. All you need is a VPN service, and access PressReader from another country. The geo-blocked publication will show up in the list.
There are many VPN options available. Personally I use Proton VPN, from a privacy-focused non-profit organisation based in Switzerland. Their free VPN plan provides private and secure no-logs access with servers in 5 countries. Their paid plans provides access in 112 countries via 6000+ servers. Impressive!
